Niagara Weddings | Business Announcement!

I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it!  I have a big announcement to make! Some of you may have seen my Facebook post about celebrating amazing news a couple of weeks ago, and some of you may have seen an extra amount of office photos, DIY office decor etc. and well, it all comes down to this…

I’m going full time!!! That’s right, I’ve ditched the day job and I’m going to be working on my planning and design business full time!

It may not seem all that exciting to you, but this has been my dream for a very long time. Truthfully, I could have done this sooner, but fear gets in the way. Not anymore. I’ve been following Lara Casey’s #2014goalsetting challenge, and my word for this year is Fearless. I’m going to do things that make me feel scared, or put me outside of my comfort zone. Why? Because that’s the only way to design the life I want to live.  Lara says “feel the fear and do it anyway” and that’s what I intend to do!

I love wedding planning. I get so giddy when a potential client inquires with me and they mention the theme or style of event they are planning. My mind swirls with fabulous, exciting, unique ideas that can make their event shine. I love the day to day tasks of budgeting and scheduling and communicating with my clients. I love the relationships I make with my clients and with my vendors. My heart literally skips a beat when I’m creating a design proposal that I know will rock my clients socks off. Being able to physically create customized items for my weddings makes me so happy. I love having clients who let me do this!

To be able to do something I really, truly, with all my heart,  love is one of the greatest ways to achieve happiness in life.

A huge thank you goes out to all of my clients who made this happen. Thank you for trusting me with your weddings so I can do something I love.

I wish you all the best. I am just nearing a decade of FT self employment and could never go back. The Destination Wedding

There are a lot of mixed opinions on the destination wedding, but I think we can all agree that the first thing we think of when we hear “destination wedding” is a beach on an island somewhere ( Jamaica, Dominican, Hawaii, etc).  Techincally, a destination wedding is a wedding that takes place any where that is outside of the area you live.

I like to think outside of the box when it comes to destination weddings. There are so many great destinations in North America, which make it easier for your guests to travel, and can help keep costs low!

Happy January! In the wedding world, we call this engagement season! Chances are you found us by Googling about weddings in Niagara. I know, this is all new to you, you’re unsure where to start, what to do next, etc…

Wedding Planner | My Elevator Speech

Ahh, the good old “elevator speech”. Every business person should have one, self-employed or not. As a wedding planner, it took me a long time to figure out how I could possibly tell people what I do in 30 seconds or less AND get the point across about why and how I do it.

The fact is I don’t just “plan weddings”.

In order for me to figure out what to tell people, I haweddings niagarad to dig deep to the core of my being and my business.

The first step, who is my ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who wants their wedding to sparkle (not literally, although that’s fun too!). Someone who wants their wedding to be full of personal details, one-of-a-kind, and beautiful. They appreciate the fine details that go into a wedding. They put a lot of focus on their guests’ experience.  They have a vision, but they need someone to put the soul into the vision to make it come to life. They value the customized elements that each vendor puts into their wedding.  Overall, they want to have fun at their wedding, they take the process seriously, but know that at the end of the day as long as they are married, the day was a success.

So my speech goes something like this…

I specialize in full wedding planning. My services are very hands-on, and here for you all of the time. I want my clients to think, I never could have done this without you. My budgets are heavy on the design element. Design for me includes everything from atmosphere to food, to guest experience and of course the decor. I look for clients who appreciate custom details, and are okay with their wedding being even just a little outside-the-box. They are looking for someone who can ease the stress, tie all the details together to create a cohesive event, and make the day run smoothly.

Wedding Planner Niagara: How I Stay Organized

If you’ve ever planned a wedding before, you know it can be tough to stay organized. I mean you have how many vendors emailing you, you’re trying to track your money so you can maintain your budget, you’re basically trying to stay sane while dealing with the other 1 000 000 000 things going on in everyday life.  So how do wedding planners do it? How do we maintain numerous weddings at the same time and manage to live our lives and still be the absolute best we can be for our clients? Organization my friends!

It takes some serious organization skills, system building and time management to get things done. So whether you are a bride and prospective client, wondering how I will be able to manage your wedding, or you’re a fellow wedding industry-er, here’s how I stay organized.

1. My inbox!

Oh how I love an inbox with no messages. What a cluttered space that can become. Inquiries, follow up, clients, vendors & friends- oh my! I’m a Gmail user, and Gmail has this amazing tool called “labels”. Each of my clients have their own labels.  I have a label for things like marketing and finances, and a personal folder for the emails I send myself ( I realize that sounds really silly- the emails I forward myself). It’s a great way to keep everything in the right place. When I need to look for an email from so and so, I just check their folder!

2. Boomerang!

Seriously, this is the most helpful Gmail app! You can schedule emails that go out as well as have an email pop back up in your inbox for follow up. I like to stay on top of inquires.  After I respond I click boomerang and have the email resurface in a few days, that way I can make sure my email was received and I can see if there’s anything I can help with. I also love to use it with current clients. If I send an email with a bunch of questions, and I’m waiting on a response I’ll boomerang the email to remind them to reply. This way nothing gets lost in the inbox (b/c we all know how easy that happens!)

3. Software!

This is something I don’t know if I would work without. I love love love having this software. It allows me to track absolutely every part of my clients wedding. The most fab part is that they get to keep track along with me! At anytime they can log in to their event and see what we’ve been doing. It’s especially great for out of town couples who don’t get to talk to me as often. wedding planner

4. A good old-fashioned  binder.

Yep, I still use client binders! It’s a great quick reference if I’m working on something in the office and I want to see a vendors invoice or contract. It keeps all the details together, so when I’m out with the client attending vendor meetings or walk-through’s I can quickly peek in my binder.

5. Communication

The easiest way to be the greatest wedding planner ever? Communication. You need to know what is going on inside your clients head in order to properly “serve” them.  When I work with my clients, I develop a pretty good idea of what they will like and won’t like. What they will splurge on and where they will cut costs. However I’m not a mind reader. That’s why I always encourage open dialogue. Have an issue? Need to vent? You secretly hate the linen I suggested? Tell me! It keeps us on track and moving in the right direction, which is all part of being organized.
