Niagara Weddings | Business Announcement! Fri, 17 Jan 2014 15:20:18 +0000 wedding designer niagara

I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it!  I have a big announcement to make! Some of you may have seen my Facebook post about celebrating amazing news a couple of weeks ago, and some of you may have seen an extra amount of office photos, DIY office decor etc. and well, it all comes down to this…

I’m going full time!!! That’s right, I’ve ditched the day job and I’m going to be working on my planning and design business full time!

It may not seem all that exciting to you, but this has been my dream for a very long time. Truthfully, I could have done this sooner, but fear gets in the way. Not anymore. I’ve been following Lara Casey’s #2014goalsetting challenge, and my word for this year is Fearless. I’m going to do things that make me feel scared, or put me outside of my comfort zone. Why? Because that’s the only way to design the life I want to live.  Lara says “feel the fear and do it anyway” and that’s what I intend to do!

I love wedding planning. I get so giddy when a potential client inquires with me and they mention the theme or style of event they are planning. My mind swirls with fabulous, exciting, unique ideas that can make their event shine. I love the day to day tasks of budgeting and scheduling and communicating with my clients. I love the relationships I make with my clients and with my vendors. My heart literally skips a beat when I’m creating a design proposal that I know will rock my clients socks off. Being able to physically create customized items for my weddings makes me so happy. I love having clients who let me do this!

To be able to do something I really, truly, with all my heart,  love is one of the greatest ways to achieve happiness in life.

A huge thank you goes out to all of my clients who made this happen. Thank you for trusting me with your weddings so I can do something I love.

2014 is going to be a great year!

The Destination Wedding Fri, 10 Jan 2014 13:00:37 +0000 There are a lot of mixed opinions on the destination wedding, but I think we can all agree that the first thing we think of when we hear “destination wedding” is a beach on an island somewhere ( Jamaica, Dominican, Hawaii, etc).  Techincally, a destination wedding is a wedding that takes place any where that is outside of the area you live.

desitnation wedding planner

I like to think outside of the box when it comes to destination weddings. There are so many great destinations in North America, which make it easier for your guests to travel, and can help keep costs low!

Some of the places I’d love to plan a destination wedding…?

  • New Orleans
  • Aspen
  • Anywhere in Florida if you want the beach feel
  • Napa Valley
  • Laguna Beach
  • Savannah ( I mean really, look how AMAZING the above photo is- Can you even imagine being married under that??)
  • Nova Scotia
  • Nantucket
  • BC

There are so many beautiful places that are so full of character and charm! If you’re up for traveling and you want something truly different from the other weddings you’ve attended, consider a more local, non- island destination wedding!

Get in touch for information on how we can help you plan the destination wedding of your dreams, beach or non-beach!

Wedding Planner | My Elevator Speech Wed, 08 Jan 2014 16:36:44 +0000 Ahh, the good old “elevator speech”. Every business person should have one, self-employed or not. As a wedding planner, it took me a long time to figure out how I could possibly tell people what I do in 30 seconds or less AND get the point across about why and how I do it.

The fact is I don’t just “plan weddings”.

In order for me to figure out what to tell people, I haweddings niagarad to dig deep to the core of my being and my business.

The first step, who is my ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who wants their wedding to sparkle (not literally, although that’s fun too!). Someone who wants their wedding to be full of personal details, one-of-a-kind, and beautiful. They appreciate the fine details that go into a wedding. They put a lot of focus on their guests’ experience.  They have a vision, but they need someone to put the soul into the vision to make it come to life. They value the customized elements that each vendor puts into their wedding.  Overall, they want to have fun at their wedding, they take the process seriously, but know that at the end of the day as long as they are married, the day was a success.

So my speech goes something like this…

I specialize in full wedding planning. My services are very hands-on, and here for you all of the time. I want my clients to think, I never could have done this without you. My budgets are heavy on the design element. Design for me includes everything from atmosphere to food, to guest experience and of course the decor. I look for clients who appreciate custom details, and are okay with their wedding being even just a little outside-the-box. They are looking for someone who can ease the stress, tie all the details together to create a cohesive event, and make the day run smoothly.

If you’re engaged and reading this and you’re thinking, Yes! That’s exactly what I’m looking for, shoot me an email, I’d love to hear from you!

Wedding Planner Niagara: How I Stay Organized Mon, 06 Jan 2014 20:00:05 +0000 If you’ve ever planned a wedding before, you know it can be tough to stay organized. I mean you have how many vendors emailing you, you’re trying to track your money so you can maintain your budget, you’re basically trying to stay sane while dealing with the other 1 000 000 000 things going on in everyday life.  So how do wedding planners do it? How do we maintain numerous weddings at the same time and manage to live our lives and still be the absolute best we can be for our clients? Organization my friends!

It takes some serious organization skills, system building and time management to get things done. So whether you are a bride and prospective client, wondering how I will be able to manage your wedding, or you’re a fellow wedding industry-er, here’s how I stay organized.

1. My inbox!

Oh how I love an inbox with no messages. What a cluttered space that can become. Inquiries, follow up, clients, vendors & friends- oh my! I’m a Gmail user, and Gmail has this amazing tool called “labels”. Each of my clients have their own labels.  I have a label for things like marketing and finances, and a personal folder for the emails I send myself ( I realize that sounds really silly- the emails I forward myself). It’s a great way to keep everything in the right place. When I need to look for an email from so and so, I just check their folder!

how to stay organized

2. Boomerang!

Seriously, this is the most helpful Gmail app! You can schedule emails that go out as well as have an email pop back up in your inbox for follow up. I like to stay on top of inquires.  After I respond I click boomerang and have the email resurface in a few days, that way I can make sure my email was received and I can see if there’s anything I can help with. I also love to use it with current clients. If I send an email with a bunch of questions, and I’m waiting on a response I’ll boomerang the email to remind them to reply. This way nothing gets lost in the inbox (b/c we all know how easy that happens!)

3. Software!

This is something I don’t know if I would work without. I love love love having this software. It allows me to track absolutely every part of my clients wedding. The most fab part is that they get to keep track along with me! At anytime they can log in to their event and see what we’ve been doing. It’s especially great for out of town couples who don’t get to talk to me as often.  wedding planner

4. A good old-fashioned  binder.

Yep, I still use client binders! It’s a great quick reference if I’m working on something in the office and I want to see a vendors invoice or contract. It keeps all the details together, so when I’m out with the client attending vendor meetings or walk-through’s I can quickly peek in my binder.

5. Communication

The easiest way to be the greatest wedding planner ever? Communication. You need to know what is going on inside your clients head in order to properly “serve” them.  When I work with my clients, I develop a pretty good idea of what they will like and won’t like. What they will splurge on and where they will cut costs. However I’m not a mind reader. That’s why I always encourage open dialogue. Have an issue? Need to vent? You secretly hate the linen I suggested? Tell me! It keeps us on track and moving in the right direction, which is all part of being organized.

A New Year, New Goals Wed, 01 Jan 2014 13:00:22 +0000 intimate weddings niagara

Happy January 1st friends! I hope you had the very best holidays ever! I can’t believe how 2013 flew by! So much goodness and love happened last year.I am so so so excited for 2014. We have some big plans coming up this year that I can’t wait to announce! I also have some super special weddings that I cannot wait to help make happen. I have a great bunch of clients this year and I’ll be sad to see them leave the WTL family!

There’s something so refreshing about January 1st, the start of a new year, the feeling of being able to conquer any new challenges and accomplish all of your dreams.

For 2014 some of my goals for myself, our home, and my business are:

  • drywall my office, update the drop-down ceiling tiles, and get rid of the awful lighting. I want my workspace to be full of prettiness & girliness!
  • Get rid of all the clutter in my office and in our home. If there isn’t a place for something… do I really still need it? If so I’ll make a place.
  • Drywall our downstairs family room/dining room. I hate our wood paneling and half stucco walls… they need to change.
  • Purchase Lara Casey’s Power sheets… and use them. I will create monthly & weekly goals and try to stick to them.
  • Have the majority of my 2014 weddings featured somewhere.
  • Stop being lazy. Seriously, aren’t we all guilty of this? I want to make more of an effort to do stuff and be way more productive then I am now.
  • Stop making excuses. This ties in with being lazy.. I’m too tired, I’m too busy, etc. I will stop and just do it.
  • Spend more time with Jesse, doing things he likes to do. Guys, I’m happy just laying on the couch watching a movie, or sitting around chatting with coffee… Jesse likes to to things. Like go to the gym, go for hikes, bike rides, etc.  Laziness pops up here often!
  • Spend more time being creative. Work on DIY projects, or paint again. I actually gave all of my painting supplies to my dad because that’s how rare I actually used them… Dad, I might need those back!
  • Be more present. If I’m with someone, anyone Jesse, my parents, my friends, etc I will not touch my phone. Even if I get an email and I want to check it. The only time I will use my phone is for taking pictures.
  • Provide the best client experiences ever. I always strive to provide the best service that I physically can, but I want to make sure that every client feels that they are having the best wedding planning experience they can and they owe some of that to me.
  • Healthier living. Me and every person reading this post right? We all say we will but we never keep it up. I will go to the gym at least twice a week, but preferably 3 times. I will drink more water… Seriously as I type this it’s noon, I have a full bottle of water on my desk and I haven’t even taken a sip! I will try and get back into juicing & clean eating.

With that being said my monthly goals for this January…

  • Finish my systems and processes guide. Create a binder that is Weddings Tied With Lace. If I was to hire a brand new employee, they should be able to read the binder and know how to do their/my job.
  • De-clutter and organize my office.
  • Make an effort to keep my laundry room clean. My laundry room is also my closet and I have a really hard time actually putting my laundry away… it’s so bad.

What are some of your 2014 & January goals? I’d love to hear them!

Niagara Wedding Planner | How We Spent Our Year Fri, 20 Dec 2013 14:19:47 +0000 Happy December! I can’t believe it’s almost the end of the year already! This year was an exciting one for us!

We had some really fab weddings happen this year and we booked some really exciting weddings for next year. These are our highlights!

Our year started a bit late in the season with a super pretty intimate destination wedding to Niagara Falls. Kate and Mark were so great to work with. They really have a blast together!

oakes garden theatre

This august we had Natalie and Spencer’s Wedding (which was featured on Elegant Wedding !) This wedding was so pretty! Grey/silver and coral were the main colours and she had lot’s and lot’s of bling! Just look at the crystal drapery she had hanging from the ceiling… amazing!

romantic niagara wedding

I  then attended Cutlivate13. Loved this experience. I came back completely motivated to get work done! I even rebranded a bit. Cassie from Flaire Weddings and Events puts this conference on. She’s awesome! There were some really great speakers too! Michelle Loretta from Sage Wedding Pros talked about back-end business stuff, finances, goal setting, business plans, you name it. She’s so amazing and full of knowledge and love for the industry.  Ashley from Ashley Brooke Designs talked about how she went from a boring “industry she knew nothing about” blog, to finally using her huge personality to grow a business she’s actually so great at! Rhi from Hey Gorgeous Events talked about how she makes her instagram so fab. Seriously… have you seen this girl’s instagram? You should probably follow her if you love looking at pretty, girly things.  She also touched on how to bring your personality into your business. So important guys.  Lauren Grove the publisher from Every Last Detail talked about how to get your weddings published y’all! Love her, she’s so sweet and runs her awesome blog all by herself! Lastly, Kristen Weaver talked about her super fab photography. This girl is funny! Really, she’s so hilarious! Not only was the actual conference amazing, it was also held on the beach in Florida, with a resort that had about 5 pools, a water slide and a pool side bar (margaritas anyone? yes please!)

Shortly after returning from Cultivate, we had Shannon and Steve’s private residence wedding. So pretty! They had their tent in the middle of their field. The inside was bright and full of romantic details like family heir-loom mason jars, “field-picked” flowers, a ribbon backdrop, and a to die-for-pretty candy table.

boho outdoor wedding

September was the first WPIC event I held as the regional rep for Niagara! We were welcomed with wide arms by Anne and Kirsten of Kurtz Orchards. Wow. They really took care of us! To read to the whole blog click here!

We started October with a trip to Vegas for the Wedding MBA. Vegas was fun! Unfortunately, I didn’t love the conference. Way too much “you should do this, but if you want to find out how, read my book”. Not cool. At least I was able to lay in the hot sun by a roof top pool!

niagara wedding plannerwedding conference

Just after returning from Vegas, we had Will and Elaine’s wedding at the Hard Rock Club and Sheraton on the Falls. Will and Elaine currently live in Alberta, so I was doing their destination wedding planning for them!

destination weddings

To end our wedding season we had Courtney and Jon’s wedding in October. Courtney is super funny. She’s one of those people that just says what’s on her mind, and you just can’t help but laugh. She also has the most funny facial expressions ever! Love this girl! She had a “Gatsby” Inspired cocktail reception and an ever so lovely candle lit reception. You can see their “sneak peek” photos over on Amanda Lachepelle’s (the photogs) blog!

Lastly, we had one more WPIC in Niagara this year. It was held at White Oaks and WOW they treated us so amazingly!! I love this venue and I love what they stand for! If you want a luxury wedding at an affordable price, definitely check them out!
