Couples are becoming “pickier” about the type of food they are serving their guests. As a wedding planner I can tell you , most wedding food isn’t that great. I’m seeing more couples putting food as their top priority when it comes to their wedding.(And it should be.) Look for a venue or caterer who makes the food fresh and does not use warmer’s to keep the food waiting until you get there. Also look for those who use the best ingredients while cooking. You don’t want to serve your guests tough over-cooked roast beef!

More and more couples are moving away from “stuffy” weddings. A lot of couples are saying goodbye to the traditional sit-down dinner and opting for creative food stations instead (think interactive smores bars or poutine stations). Some couples are even introducing games during the cocktail hour, or entertainers during the reception to increase the fun happening at their wedding! This is a trend I am happy to see, not only does it insure that your guests will leave happy, they will also remember a one-of-a-kind wedding!

Not only is it much tastier than plan old candy, it adds more depth and visual interest to your table decor!

Dreamy mint weddings are high on the trend list for 2013 and with good reason. Soft pastel wedding palettes are some of my favourite to work with. It’s truly romantic and pairs well with so many other pastel colours. Add a bit of lace for a vintage feel or use sequins to mod it up. See a mint and peach inspiration board here.

Niagara Weddings | Wedding Beauty Week: How to Properly Wash Your Face

This may seem like a “Gee, no kidding” article to some of you, but not everyone knows all the steps to properly wash your face. I know from my time working at Faces selling skin care, that there are a lot of us who don’t know what to do, and some of us who need to be reminded every once in a while. It can be hard to get into a skin care routine and to keep it. If you want to look great for your wedding, make an effort to keep your skin clean! Anyone who lives in Niagara knows how hot and humid it can get in the summer time. The cleaner your skin is, the less bacteria there will be for you to sweat all over you face.

What you need:

A good cleanser. You need to find one that is right for your skin. If you have oily skin look for a gel oil-free cleanser with salicylic acid. If you have dry skin, look for a gentle cream cleanser.

A good wash cloth.

Toner. Again pick a toner based on your skin type. If you are prone to breakouts try a toner with Salicylic acid(it helps break up and kill bacteria). I like to use Neostrata Level 2 toner. If you have dry skin look for an alcohol free toner, with moisturizing properties.

Cotton pads.

Moisturizer. Again make sure it’s right for your skin type. If you [purchase it from Shoppers or Sephora, ask a sales associate to help you find what works for you.

Step 1.

Run the temperature of your water to slightly over warm. You don’t want it to burn and dry your skin, but you want it to be hot enough to remove the product and dirt off of your face. Take your wash cloth and wipe anything off of your face with just water. Next take your cleanser and apply it to your face, making sure to get around the edge of your face and under your chin as well. Rinse off with water and wash cloth, making sure to get every corner of your face.

Step 2. Pat your face dry. Apply toner to a cotton pad and move in an up direction all over your face. You can see the extra dirt that was left in your skin. Don’t skip this step, not only does it get out the extra dirt, it an help kill bacteria and remove and traces the cleanser may have left.

Step 3. Apply moisturizer to your face.

Additional: Once or twice a week use an exfoliater to remove the build of skin cells on your face. It will get rid of the “dull” skin tone you are seeing and provide you will a fresh, glowing look.

I know it can seem like a daunting task, but try to force yourself to wash your face every night. There are nights when all I want to do is go to bed, but take the extra 5 minutes to thoroughly wash your face. Your skin and wedding pictures will thank you for it!
