Niagara Weddings | Wedding Beauty Week: How to Properly Wash Your Face

This may seem like a “Gee, no kidding” article to some of you, but not everyone knows all the steps to properly wash your face. I know from my time working at Faces selling skin care, that there are a lot of us who don’t know what to do, and some of us who need to be reminded every once in a while. It can be hard to get into a skin care routine and to keep it. If you want to look great for your wedding, make an effort to keep your skin clean! Anyone who lives in Niagara knows how hot and humid it can get in the summer time. The cleaner your skin is, the less bacteria there will be for you to sweat all over you face.

What you need:

A good cleanser. You need to find one that is right for your skin. If you have oily skin look for a gel oil-free cleanser with salicylic acid. If you have dry skin, look for a gentle cream cleanser.

A good wash cloth.

Toner. Again pick a toner based on your skin type. If you are prone to breakouts try a toner with Salicylic acid(it helps break up and kill bacteria). I like to use Neostrata Level 2 toner. If you have dry skin look for an alcohol free toner, with moisturizing properties.

Cotton pads.

Moisturizer. Again make sure it’s right for your skin type. If you [purchase it from Shoppers or Sephora, ask a sales associate to help you find what works for you.

Step 1.

Run the temperature of your water to slightly over warm. You don’t want it to burn and dry your skin, but you want it to be hot enough to remove the product and dirt off of your face. Take your wash cloth and wipe anything off of your face with just water. Next take your cleanser and apply it to your face, making sure to get around the edge of your face and under your chin as well. Rinse off with water and wash cloth, making sure to get every corner of your face.

Step 2. Pat your face dry. Apply toner to a cotton pad and move in an up direction all over your face. You can see the extra dirt that was left in your skin. Don’t skip this step, not only does it get out the extra dirt, it an help kill bacteria and remove and traces the cleanser may have left.

Step 3. Apply moisturizer to your face.

Additional: Once or twice a week use an exfoliater to remove the build of skin cells on your face. It will get rid of the “dull” skin tone you are seeing and provide you will a fresh, glowing look.

I know it can seem like a daunting task, but try to force yourself to wash your face every night. There are nights when all I want to do is go to bed, but take the extra 5 minutes to thoroughly wash your face. Your skin and wedding pictures will thank you for it!

Wedding Planner Niagara Falls | Wedding Beauty Week: Healthy Skin Starts with a Healthy Diet

If you want to look great on the outside, you need to nourish your body on the inside. You see all kinds of beauty products, creams, serums and makeup that have ingredients such as vitamins A, C & E, antioxidants, and other good-for-you treats. The reason is because scientists know how good these essentials are for your body, so why wouldn’t they be good for your skin as well? There is research stating that the topical application of these vitamins and antioxidants does work, but in my opinion most creams don’t have a enough of the good ingredients to reap all of the benefits. On top of that, taking a multivitamin is good for your whole body, not just your skin and with your skin being your body’s largest organ it makes sense that it would get a lot of benefits.

So what am I saying? Take your vitamins! Eat a healthy and balanced diet! There is no better way to help your skin than by nourishing it from within!

I believe in eating less refined sugar, drinking little to no alcohol, and taking in a very minimum amount(if any) of trans fat.

There are of course foods that are very good for you, but I find I just can’t eat enough of those foods to really make an impact. I eat healthy and take some supplements! I take a multivitamin as well as “skin” vitamins. Genuine Health makes a few different kind of vitamins that are good for your skin. I take the Omega + Glow vitamins. They are super high in special fish oils which are so good for your skin!

Basically, if you want to start seeing a drastic change in your skin, start eating to feed your skin! What you do for the inside will reflect on the outside.

Niagara Wedding Planner | Wedding Beauty Week: Wedding Skin

With the spring season officially here and wedding season just around the corner I thought I would kick it off with a week of blogging dedicated to helping you look your best on your wedding day.

As a certified makeup artist, I know the importance of looking your absolute best on your big day. I also know, that makeup should be used to bring out your best features, not to cover up your skin.

Think of your skin as a canvas. If you have 2 canvas’s, one that is perfectly smooth and one that is uneven, and you apply the exact same amount of paint to each canvas, which one will look better? It’s not to say that we can’t make “uneven” skin look beautiful, but it would be a lie to say that it takes the same amount of product and work to complete the same look.

With that being said, this week is going to be dedicated to making your skin a blank canvas.  We will talk about tips and tricks, your diet, your skincare routine,  and so much more! Follow us here to find out how to make your skin perfect in time for your wedding day.

Niagara Weddings and Events | Holiday Party Planning Tips

Merry Christmas !! It’s been a fun writing all of these holiday party planning tips, and now the main event is here. So what do you do at the end of the party when you’d really like those last few guests to leave?

Holiday Party Planning Tip 16

How to politely end your party

1. Turn the music down a few notches, clear any empty bottles and trays of food.

2. Start to load the dishwasher and clean up. (Your guests will either get the hint and leave or they will offer to help clean up)

3. If your guests don’t get the hint. Start to announce that you are “so sleepy” or that you need to get up in the morning. This should get your guests to clear out.

Have a great holiday everyone!

Ask for help!

Party Planning Tip 14

Enlist professional help! Need help cleaning? Hire a cleaner to do the less desirable tasks such as the bathrooms. Hate cooking? Hire a caterer.  No one will think less of you, and you will have more time to enjoy the tasks you love, such as decorating.

He’s making his list, he’s checking it twice…

Party Planning Tip 13

Make a check list! Write down everything that you need to do for the party, need to buy for the party, and need to prepare for the party. This will ensure you do not forget any of the last minute details!

Niagara Weddings and Events | Holiday Party Planning Tips

When it comes to hosting a holiday party in your home, make sure you do this before your guests arrive.

Holiday Party Planning Tip 12

Be sure to do an extra sweep through your bathroom before your guests arrive. Because this is usually a private space, we tend to keep a lot of personal items in this room.  Unless you make your guests go outside to use the bathroom, they will be using this space. Hide anything you do not want people to see.

Mix up your guest list. Don’t just include friends or acquaintances from the same group. Invite people from different groups, to change things up a bit. It’s more fun for you guests if they don’t know every person that is there.

Niagara Weddings and Events | Holiday Party Planning Tips

Happy Friday! Only 20 more days until Christmas! Since it’s Friday we have some more guest etiquette tips for you!

Holiday Party Planning Tip 10

1. Be on time.  Showing up too early will put your host/hostess out. They will be trying to wrap up the last minute touches, or likely getting themselves ready.  Being unreasonably late is just as bad as it tells your hosts that their event isn’t of high importance to them.

2. Dress up. You will have to factor in what you should wear based on where the party is being held.  Just because you are attending a party in someone’s home, does not mean that you shouldn’t dress to impress. Look your best, the hosts will appreciate you taking the time to look nice for their event.

3. It’s fine to say “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Chanukah.”

While “happy holidays” is never wrong, most etiquette experts agree that celebration-specific wishes are acceptable because they’re “simply greetings of the season,” says Randall. “Most people will respond in a positive way, even those who don’t celebrate these holidays.” But if anyone’s offended by your greeting, offer a quick apology and move on.
